My fascination with mini cars

What is it about the mini-car that I just love? I am not a average size person....at 6'5" i would never be able to fit in one.  Don't we always desire what we can't have?  :)
Consider the Peel p50 and it's brother the Peel Trident.

Most people probably familiar with the Trident that Clarkson drove on Britan's 'Top Gear' show.  The Peel company in the UK began producing these little gems in 1962.  Today you can still get them in both gasoline and electric versions.  If you are inclined, go to their website and order one:  http://www.peelengineering.co.uk/.  There is also a great video of the Australian 'Top Gear' driving the p50.

Another favorite of mine is the BMW isetta.  Built post-war when people were not driving long distances, this egg-shaped beauty had you climbing in the front of the car. How many of you get in your car and have to maneuver around the steering wheel today? Not so for the isettta - the steering wheel moves out so you can get in.  Genius!  I have seen these being uncovered in barns on the show 'American Pickers'.
Trivia so you look smarter than your friends:  The original isetta was a design from a French company that made refrigerators.

Ok, enough of the 3-wheelers. The original Mini Cooper was a sexy mini car.  The new ones today are nice, but not like the classic mini. I first fell in love when I saw them racing up the mountain in the Chimney Rock Hill Climb in North Carolina.

There are many more that I didn't mention, and these small cars are still being produced to this day: the SmartForTwo and the Scion IQ.  While nice looking vehicles, I will still be enamored by the classics.
